Saudi Arabia has unveiled the official symbol for its national currency, the Saudi riyal, in a historic move approved by King Salman bin Abdulaziz. This initiative strengthens the riyal’s identity and aligns it with major global currencies.

Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) Governor Ayman Al-Sayari expressed gratitude to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their leadership. He emphasized that the new symbol will reinforce Riyadh’s position in financial markets locally, regionally, and internationally.

The implementation of the riyal symbol will be introduced gradually across financial and commercial transactions. Inspired by Arabic calligraphy, the design reflects Saudi Arabia’s rich cultural heritage and economic ambitions under Vision 2030.

The move highlights the Kingdom’s commitment to modernizing its financial sector while preserving its cultural roots. With the Saudi riyal now carrying a distinct identity, it is poised to gain greater recognition in global economic frameworks, including the G20.
