Japan is facing its worst wildfire in half a century as flames engulf over 2,600 hectares near Ofunato. Fueled by record-low rainfall and last year’s extreme heat, the fire has forced nearly 4,000 residents to evacuate and damaged at least 80 buildings.

Despite relentless efforts by 2,000 firefighters and military helicopters, the blaze remains uncontrolled. Strong winds and dry conditions continue to worsen the crisis, making firefighting efforts even more challenging.

Local businesses, including Taiheiyo Cement and Saitoseika, have temporarily halted operations due to the evacuation zones. Meanwhile, Japanese baseball star Roki Sasaki has stepped up, donating $67,000 and emergency supplies to help the affected community.

As snow and rain approach, authorities hope for relief, but concerns remain over worsening conditions. Stay tuned for updates on this developing crisis!
