A new report by Swiss air quality monitoring firm IQAir has exposed a worsening air pollution crisis, with only seven countries—Australia, New Zealand, the Bahamas, Barbados, Grenada, Estonia, and Iceland—meeting WHO’s clean air standards in 2024.
Meanwhile, Chad and Bangladesh topped the list of most polluted nations, with smog levels exceeding WHO limits by over 15 times. Shockingly, the U.S. government has shut down its global air monitoring program, creating severe data gaps, especially in Africa and Asia.
Pakistan and India remain among the world’s most polluted countries, while experts warn that climate change and wildfires will only worsen air quality in the coming years. As pollution reaches critical levels, urgent global action is needed to combat this growing environmental crisis.
