Tariff War Erupts: US Slaps China With Shocking 245% Import Duties

In a bold and highly controversial move, the United States has raised tariffs on Chinese imports to a staggering 245%, marking a severe escalation in the ongoing trade war. The decision, issued through a new executive order by former President Donald Trump, was justified by the White House as a response to China’s retaliatory actions and refusal to negotiate.

China has left us no other option,” read a statement from Washington, highlighting Beijing’s hard stance during months of tariff negotiations. China, in turn, condemned the US action, calling it unreasonable but not unexpected, and reaffirmed its readiness to defend national interests.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian reiterated that “there are no winners in trade wars,” urging the US to abandon aggressive tactics and return to the negotiation table.

With global markets already jittery, analysts warn this tariff escalation could trigger rising consumer prices, business uncertainty, and supply chain disruptions worldwide. As the world watches, the possibility of a resolution—or further escalation—remains uncertain.
